UPCYLING & SUSTAINABILITY
We hold deep concerns about the planet's future due to the detrimental impacts of production practices in the textile industry.
Here are a few concerns that weigh heavily on our minds:
Enormous Waste
India alone wastes 1.6 million tons of clothes each year. By upcycling pre-loved textiles, we reduce waste and avoid the polluting effects of creating new textiles such as dyeing and printing.
Carbon Emissions
A single pair of jeans creates a staggering 33 kilos of carbon emissions. On average, it is estimated that it takes around 1,800 gallons (approximately 6,814 liters) of water to produce one pair of jeans. By repurposing these jeans and diverting them from landfills, we play our part in combating climate change.
Health Concerns
The Indian textile industry workers bear the greatest burden of unethical practices. Prolonged exposure to hazardous chemicals, whether in liquid or noxious gas form, significantly impacts their health for years following exposure.
Our Upcyling Process
Collection
We ethically source used garments at fair prices from the women in our village or from collection houses across India, ensuring a sustainable supply of materials for our upcycling process.
Curation
Each sari is meticulously hand-picked, with a focus on using only cotton saris to ensure quality and durability in our products.
Cleaning
All used clothing is thoroughly washed without using chemicals or harmful substances. It’s then dried in the Indian sun, and sanitized using UV light, ensuring that each piece is clean and safe for our customers.
