Our Mission: 

 

With a focused lens on a single, remote village in Western India, NARIKIND aims to empower rural women through meaningful employment, fair wages and the potential to build a better future for themselves and their loved ones. In a drought-ridden zone, where daily life is marked by water shortages, and the job opportunities are scare, we hope that our project can be a true catalyst for change

We upcycle pre-loved saris and jeans, transforming them into beautiful and colorful home decor products, bags, accessories, and gifts. Each piece is a testament to the skill and dedication of women from a small village in India, where job opportunities are scarce and the nearest town is hours away. Our aim is to support these women by providing essential skills training, fair wages, and the opportunity to work from home. By doing so, we empower them to care for their loved ones and build a better future.

Empowering Women: We believe in the inherent strength and resilience of women. Through our work, we create value in the following ways:
Skills Training: We provide comprehensive skills training to equip these women with the tools they need to succeed, both personally and professionally.

Fair Wages: We ensure that these women receive fair wages for their craftsmanship, recognizing their talent and the value they bring to each piece.

Opportunity to Work from Home: We give them sewing machines from our factory, enabling them to work from the comfort and safety of their homes, while balancing the demands of their families.

Empowerment and a Stronger Voice: Through their work with NARIKIND, these women gain confidence and agency, finding their voice and becoming agents of change within their community.

Ability to Build a Better Future for Their Families: By providing them with stable employment and fair wages, we empower these women to create a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones.

Ground Realities:

A) Community: These women live in a drought-prone area, where water and power shortages are commonplace. The financial empowerment they gain through our work helps them cope with the challenges of life in such a harsh environment.

B) Limited Work Opportunities: With the nearest town hours away, the only other work options for these women are on farms, where everything is done by hand and unsafe. By offering alternative employment opportunities, we open doors for a safer and brighter future.

C) Safety: Homes in this area are prone to break-ins and robberies, especially after harvest season. By providing employment options beyond farming, we reduce the likelihood of such incidents and create possibilities for a more secure and improved quality of life.

Upcycling: Our commitment to upcycling stems from a deep concern for the environment and a desire to promote sustainable practices. We create value in the following ways:
Environmental Impact: By upcycling pre-loved textiles, we mitigate the polluting effects of dyeing and printing. It also allows us to reduce waste, as India alone wastes 1.6 million tons of clothes each year.

Carbon Emissions: A single pair of jeans creates a staggering 33 kilos of carbon emissions. By repurposing these jeans and diverting them from landfills, we play our part in combating climate change.

Saving people from the dirty and polluting dyeing industry: Through upcycling, we contribute to saving both our environment and the individuals who would otherwise be exposed to harmful chemicals in the dyeing and printing industry.

Collection: We ethically source used garments at fair prices from the women in our village or from collection houses, ensuring a sustainable supply of materials for our upcycling process.

Curation: Each sari is meticulously hand-picked, with a focus on using only cotton saris to ensure quality and durability in our products.

Cleaning: All used clothing is thoroughly washed, dried in the Indian sun, and sanitized using UV light, ensuring that each piece is clean and safe for our customers.

Craftsmanship: We take pride in the craftsmanship of these women. They carefully cut, stitch, do patchwork, quilting, and assembly to create unique and one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their skill and creativity.
